Fiber-Reinforced Polymers (FRP) have found their way into a wide range of applications from ballistics to filament wound ducting. Their inherent fire resistance, strength and ability to withstand high temperature environments with less weight than traditional materials have made them the product of choice for items that include fire-safe piping systems, deluge systems, mining ventilation systems, offshore water pipe systems, and armored vehicles. In public transportation, they are used in aircraft interiors, fire-safe railcar and bus parts, passenger platform decking and walkways.
FRP composites are used to replace typical structural materials of steel, metal, aluminum and wood in these applications. Composites offer numerous advantages over traditional materials - lower density, lighter weight and better corrosion resistance, strength and durability.
GP Chemicals products are used around the globe as a primary element of FRP composites. We offer a wide line of phenolic resins from which these industries can choose to provide the properties needed for their manufacturing process.
Phenolic resins for pultrusion, sheet and bulk molding compounds (SMB/MC), hand lay-up and resin transfer molding (RTM), filament winding, honeycomb and glass fiber and carbon fiber prepregs are available. Many of the GP® resins systems have passed United States, British and International Maritime Organization Standard Fire tests or meet Military Specification MIL-R-9299C requirements.
